Whether you're a new diver or been diving for years, the PADI Advanced Open Water course will teach you valuable skills that will make you a better diver for yourself and your dive buddy. Develop essential scuba skills like how to use a compass and navigate underwater, and go deeper on your deep adventure dive. Skills like search and recovery, buoyancy and drift diving are essential to becoming an experienced scuba diver, and the wreck adventure dive lets you explore the outer structure of a wreck. Add Enriched Air (Nitrox) and you’ll learn to plan and dive with nitrox for longer bottom times and shorter surface intervals.

What is the full DXDivers experience?

Glad you asked! Here at DXDivers, we’re proud to have an all-in-one facility and dive boat for a convenient, relaxing scuba experience. Our full retail store carries more than 100 diving brands and over 3,000 products, and we have a training pool out back and classrooms upstairs. Once you’re certified, our drive-thru tank fill station means you never have to lug your tanks through the store. Best of all, our dive boat, the Lady Go Diver, a Newton 46-ft Dive Special, is docked less than a mile from the shop. With our retail store, training pool, classrooms and dive boat all close together, every part of your diving experience fits together seamlessly.

What does the combo include?

The combo covers the course fees for both PADI Advanced Open Water Diver ($449) and PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver ($99.99), so you save $28.99. PADI eLearning for each course is purchased separately: Advanced Open Water eLearning ($195) and Enriched Air (Nitrox) eLearning ($190).

Are there any prerequisites?

Yes. You need to be a certified diver (PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, or a qualifying entry-level certification from another agency) and at least 12 years old.

How long does the course take, and how often do you run it?

Advanced Open Water is offered every weekend, weather permitting. After your eLearning, the course takes one weekend: a Saturday afternoon boat trip and a Sunday morning boat trip off our dive boat, the Lady Go Diver, where you complete your 5 adventure dives. Plan on about 6 hours each day, from the time you arrive until you head home. There’s no classroom or pool time. Ocean dives always depend on the weather. Call us at 954-420-0009 to reserve your weekend.

How does the Nitrox part work?

Nitrox has a higher concentration of oxygen than regular air (over 21%), which means longer bottom times, shorter surface intervals and, as many divers report, less fatigue. You’ll complete the Enriched Air eLearning, then meet with an instructor who reviews it with you and shows you how to analyze your own tanks.

Can I choose a different schedule or a private class?

Yes! The standard course is a group class offered every weekend, weather permitting. If you’d like more flexibility, you have two upgrades: the Flexible Schedule Upgrade (+$180) gives you semi-private training scheduled around your availability (we may add other students if needed or wanted), and the Private 1-on-1 Upgrade (+$250) gives you one-on-one instruction with flexible scheduling. Upgrades are added on top of the combo price.

How long do I have to finish the course after I buy it?

You have 12 months from the date of purchase to complete the course.

What happens if bad weather cancels a boat day?

Sometimes the ocean has other plans! If weather or sea conditions cancel the boat, we can use alternative dive sites such as Tigertail Lake and Blue Heron Bridge to complete your course.

Is rental gear included?

Yes. Rental BCD, regulator with octopus, dive computer, wetsuit and tanks are included in the course. You bring your own personal and safety gear: mask, snorkel, fins (boots if using open heel fins), weights, surface marker buoy (SMB) with finger spool, whistle, compass and logbook. Students get 10% off gear in our store.

Is my course free if I buy a scuba gear package?

It can be! It depends on the combined price of 4 items in your gear package: BCD, regulator, octo and computer. $2,000+ gets your Advanced Open Water course fee free; $3,000+ gets Advanced Open Water + Nitrox course fees free; $4,000+ adds 2 free dives on our dive boat, the Lady Go Diver; and $5,000+ adds 5 free dives on the Lady Go Diver. Free courses cover the course fee only. PADI eLearning and course materials aren’t included with the gear package, but we sell them for less than PADI does. See the gear packages that qualify or call us at 954-420-0009.

How deep can I go with my Advanced Open Water certification?

Advanced Open Water Divers 15 and older can dive to 100 feet (30 meters). Junior Advanced Open Water Divers ages 12–14 can dive to 70 feet (21 meters). Your deep adventure dive goes below the Open Water limit of 60 feet, to a maximum of 100 feet (70 feet for ages 12–14). Want to dive to the recreational limit of 130 feet? Take the PADI Deep Diver specialty.

How old do you have to be to get Advanced Open Water certified?

The minimum age for PADI Advanced Open Water is 12. Divers ages 12–14 earn the Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification, with a maximum depth of 70 feet, and it’s automatically upgraded to Advanced Open Water Diver when they turn 15.

When can I start the PADI eLearning?

Right away! After you buy the Advanced Open Water eLearning and the Enriched Air (Nitrox) eLearning, we email you a link to redeem each code, so you can start learning from home.

Are there any medical issues that could prevent me from scuba diving?

That’s ultimately up to your doctor. You’ll fill out the PADI medical questionnaire in your PADI eLearning profile. If you answer “yes” to anything on it, you’ll need a release signed by your doctor before diving.

Are fills included during the course?

Yes. Air or nitrox fills (nitrox if you’re Nitrox certified) are included for your course dives, along with rental tanks and rental gear.

Should I bring my own food, snacks or drinks on the boat?

On the Lady Go Diver, we provide complimentary light snacks, cold drinking water and soda. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks, too, so you feel comfortable while diving with us.
