PIER CLEAN-UP FAQ'S

Yes, the store will be open on the day of the event, 7:00AM - 6:30PM.

Before covid, this was an annual event that ran for more than 15 years! Now that it’s back, we intend on doing it once a year, every summer. The Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier is a 24/7 pier so the fact that it's closed at all is a big deal!

You must be SCUBA certified to dive during the event!

However, freediver with certification and snorkelers are always welcome!

Snorkelers use "SNORKELER" for required certification number.

*Snorkelers my not use weights while participating in the event.

BEFORE THE PIER CLEAN-UP

Pick up any rentals the day before the event. We do not reserve gear or tanks, it’s on a first come first serve basis.

Absolutely! Check out our PADI Open Water course. You need to complete the self-study, which takes anywhere from 6-8 hours, then complete the pool session and 2 ocean dive days - 3 days total in-person. Minimum age to get certified is 10 years old.

Bring your diving gear, lots of sunblock, water, snacks, hats, anything you would normally bring for a day at the beach or diving, like defog.

If you don’t have a buddy, don’t worry! We have plenty of friendly divers that would love to have you join their group!

Yes, in order to use scuba equipment and dive the pier, you will need to be a certified scuba diver. Certified freedivers are also welcome! If someone you know wants to get scuba or freediving certified before the event click the links.

Snorkelers are welcome! Please be sure to register and sign a waiver before getting in the water just like the scuba divers and freedivers.

ON THE DAY OF THE PIER CLEAN-UP

Parking is limited! Please carpool if you can. There will be police officers to direct and control the flow of traffic. We have areas of designated parking they will direct you to.

IMPORTANT! Drop off your gear at the front of the pier. You will be waiting in a long car line to drop off the gear, so please be patient. Drop off the gear by quickly unloading and grabbing your parking permit. We will have staff available to watch over your gear while you park. DO NOT REGISTER UNTIL AFTER PARKING - you will hold up traffic and they will remove your car if needed.

When you check in the morning of the event!

We have a partner organization that will pick up the debris, log what type of debris was collected, weigh it, and dispose of it properly.

Yes, we encourage it! Take a picture and send it to us through Instagram @dxdivers to be featured!

Diving around the pier, depending on the tide, can range from 15-22 feet. There is a surrounding reef that contains debris, and that can get as deep as 30 feet. We request you do not go too far from the pier, as passing boats may not keep clearance of the pier although required by law.
