PADI DIVEMASTER PROFESSIONAL COURSE

We have a full retail store equipped with over 100 diving brands and over 3000 unique products. On-site, we also have a training pool out back and several classrooms upstairs. Once you're certified, check out our drive-thru tank fill station so you don't have to lug your tanks through the store. Best of all, you can hop on our 46-foot Newton custom dive boat, the Lady Go Diver, docked less than a mile from the shop. Did we mention we're the only dive shop in South Florida to have both a full retail dive shop and our own charter boat? We manage every aspect of our operation to better serve you and provide the best possible diving experience.

The best option is determined by your professional goals. With the fast track option, you will earn your certification within a shorter time frame but gain limited experience. Whereas the internship takes longer, but gives you time to learn the ropes, ask all the questions, and get acquainted with all the nuances of being a divemaster. At DXDivers, we recommend the internship because we strongly believe that the more time you put in, the better quality divemaster you will become. The analogy we like to use is that of a medical doctor that doesn’t go through residency, you have the knowledge but it has not been applied. Although you’re not becoming a doctor, as a divemaster you will have divers’ lives in your hands and this is not something to take lightly. Additionally, if your goal is to become an instructor, doing the internship will provide a solid foundation on your professional journey.

Divemasters can work on charter boats, assist instructors, dive guides or in a dive shop! This is a versatile role with many areas for learning and can be a stepping stone to furthering your career as a PADI Professional. Divemasters primarily work on charter boats where they work alongside a captain and potentially other crew members to plan the dives, prevent any issues that may arise, prepare the divers for a successful dive and provide condition reports.

In order to become an instructor, you must complete the first level of the PADI Professional series which is PADI divemaster. As a PADI divemaster you will learn invaluable skills that will bolster your scuba knowledge and lay the foundation for you to become a confident instructor for your future scuba students. We highly recommend trying to work as a divemaster to fully understand the importance of the role before moving onto the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). The best way to prepare for the PADI Instructor Development Course as a PADI divemaster is to assist with classes.

It’s required to have your own personal and scuba gear. Personal gear entails: mask, snorkel, fins, weights, safety marker buoy (SMB) with finger spool, whistle, finger spool, boots (if using open heel fins) and wetsuit. Recommended scuba equipment: regulator with first and second stage, octopus, buoyancy compensation device (BCD), a dive computer, and an underwater compass. Tanks are not necessarily required but highly encouraged. Besides the basic scuba gear, you will need: slates to write on, an underwater signaling device, a knife, lift bags, a reel for your flag, back-up computer and dive lights for night dives.

As a PADI Divemaster Candidate you will need to complete either the Divemaster eLearning or purchase a PADI Divemaster crew-pack. Either option will provide everything you need for the self-study portion of the course. Purchase the materials with us at the top of the page.

The best part of becoming a PADI Divemaster is the versatility of the position. In general, divemasters are in high demand especially in diving hot spots such as South Florida. Your certification is recognized worldwide making it easy to relocate between different countries while sharing your love of scuba with others. As a PADI member you will have access to the newly enhanced PADI job board. PADI Dive centers and resorts across the globe post their open positions regularly.

Yes, while working as a divemaster, it is required to have your own professional liability insurance. This will protect you in case anything happens on the boat or with a student. You can easily purchase the PADI endorsed policy through Vicencia & Buckley - A Division of HUB International.

Yes, both air and nitrox fills are included throughout the duration of the course. If you do not have your own tanks, rental tanks will be included with your course fee.
